Born on March 20, 1944, in Southport, North Carolina, W.C. grew up on his family’s farm in Ash, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Willis Carr Sellars, Sr. and Margaret Teva Formyduval Sellars.
W.C. honorably served his country in the United States Navy for more than four years. His military service sparked a lifelong passion for travel, which created an interest in travels where he explored all corners of the United States with his family. Through the introduction of a aunt, W.C. met the love of his life, Priscilla Howell. Their meeting blossomed into a beautiful marriage that spanned more than 48 years. He retired from DuPont after many years of dedicated service, however, he continued working, where he was employed at ADM, Southport, North Carolina. He spent an additional twenty more years working alongside his son, where he not only enjoyed serving customers but also formed long-lasting friendships with many of the people he met.
W.C. was a proud patriot who deeply loved his country. His faith was an important part of his life, and he faithfully looked forward to Sunday worship services and the Wednesday night Fellowship Meals at his church, Sharon Methodist Church. He found great joy in spending time with family, cheering on NASCAR races, and sharing life with his loyal canine companion, Ellie.
Perhaps more than anything, W.C. will be remembered for his remarkable gift of conversation. He truly never met a stranger, whether at church, flea markets, or anywhere else his travels took him. He loved telling stories, sharing life's lessons, and entertaining those around him with his many anecdotes. His candid nature occasionally got him into a little trouble, but it was simply part of the one-of-a-kind personality that made him so memorable and so deeply loved.
He is survived by his daughter, Lauren and her husband, Chris; his son, Michael and his wife, Crystal; his sisters, Renee Hughes and Teresa Jackson; his aunt Lois Williamson, along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him. He leaves behind countless cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced when confirmed.
Pallbearers will be Keith Leonard, Phillip Leonard, Joey Babson, Randy Riggs, Craven Hewett, and Keith Holden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharon Methodist Church
