Alfred A. Goetz, 85, of Sheboygan went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Al was born January 14, 1927 in Sheboygan to Albert and Katarina (Valle) Goetz. He attended local schools, graduating from North High, Class of 1945. Alfred later attended Bradley University where he earned his Teaching Degree.
After graduating High School, Alfred joined the United States Army-Airforce and he served in Japan and Korea. Throughout his life, Al worked as an iceman, at Kingsbury Brewery, at the State Corrections Boy’s School in Illinois and retired from Sheboygan Falls High School as Head of the Physical Education Department. He was a lifelong member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Al was head track coach, assistant football and basketball coach at Sheboygan Falls High. He was a member of the D.A.V., former president of the Bayern Society, and was Vorplattler and former president for the D’Werdenfelser Schuhplattlers. He was also former Vorplattler of the Gauverband. Al played soccer for the Sheboygan Sport Club and was a member of S.C.A.R.T.A. Alfred was an outdoorsman, enjoying Muskie fishing, pheasant hunting, bird watching and roses. Al was a traveler, taking several trips to visit relatives in Germany.
Alfred is survived by his children Cindy (Roger) Hoitink and Jeff (Kim) Goetz all of Sheboygan; grandchildren Trevor (Stephanie) Goetz, Amanda (John) Thielmann, Jamie (Andy) Williams, Steve Hoitink, Trina Hoo, Shannon Hoitink, Ryan (Paula) Hoitink, Nicole (Curt) Dunham, Crystal (Joe) Lawrance, Jason and Justin Goetz; great-grandchildren Mark and Maksim Williams, Dayton Thielmann, Justin Chaney, Corey and Serina Hoo, Samantha Thiel, Hannah and Savannah Hoitink, Jack Luigi Hoitink, Ian Dunham, Maxwell Dunham and Jordan Goetz; great-great-grandchild Jaxin Van Ess; daughter-in-law, Beth Goetz and other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda; a son, Bruce Goetz and an infant daughter, Heidi. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Richard J. Cerpich will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Al’s name.
The family of Al would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, in particular Sandy H., Dr. Matthews and his staff and the Sheboygan Senior Community for their care and compassion.
