

Born June 25, 1935 in Sheboygan to Edwin J. and Ida E. (Bauman) Hogue. She went to Kohler Grade and High School, graduating in 1953 and graduated from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She worked at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital from 1956-57, and then worked as a nurse in Denver, Colorado.
She married David J. Young in 1961. While raising Diane and Evan, the family moved frequently and enjoyed staying in and touring Wisconsin, Minnesota, St. Louis, Texas, South Carolina, and Florida, some of the states a couple of times, and meeting old friends. In 1980, she returned to Kohler and Sheboygan. Ellen was employed at St. Nicholas Hospital for two years and then joined Vollrath Co. LLC as the Occupational Health Nurse for 16 years, retiring in 1998.
As a member of First United Lutheran Church, Ellen enjoyed quilting for World Relief. She also enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed her home, garden, hobbies, and bridge clubs, golf, bowling and traveling. “The days just created themselves.”
Ellen is survived by her daughter Diane (Tom) Coughlin of Vernonia, Oregon; her son Evan (Maria) Llamas-Young of Algonquin, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Gerry Hogue of Sheboygan. She is further survived by two nephews, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and three grand nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and brother Jim Hogue, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Lutheran Church. Rev. Todd W. Smith will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in Ellen’s name for the American Cancer Society and First United Lutheran Church’s music program.
Ellen and her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Brauer, Dr. Matthews, the staff at Sunny Ridge and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and especially to her dear friend Dona Lewin.
