Harland was born September 9, 1938 in Northwood, North Dakota to Kenneth and Myrtis (Larson) Lee. The family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he graduated from Grand Forks Central High School, Class of 1956. He furthered his education at the University of North Dakota where he received his BS Degree in Business Administration.
Harland served his country in the U.S. Army and later with the U.S. Army Reserves. Following his military career, Harland returned to the University of North Dakota and received his Masters Degree in Business Education.
On December 28, 1963 Harland and Beverly Perkowski were united in marriage at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. In 1964 the couple moved to Sheboygan, where Harland taught Business Education in Sheboygan Schools from 1964 – 1995.
Harland was a member of First United Lutheran Church, where he served as usher and was on the church counsel. He was also a member of the Sheboygan Noon Lions Club, where he assisted in the vision outreach program, distributing eyeglasses to the needy in Mexico. He was an active member of the Sons Of Norway, and took pride in his Norwegian heritage.
Following his kidney transplant in 2002, he realized a life-long dream of traveling to Norway to meet his relatives. Thru his affiliation with the Sons Of Norway, he was able to find long lost relatives and took great pleasure in tracing his genealogy.
Harland enjoyed many interests such as playing golf, camping, traveling, his weekly card games, and just being with people. His strong ties to North Dakota led him to follow his favorite team-----the UND Fighting Sioux Hockey team.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, Harland is survived by two daughters, Kristin (Jeff) Lee-Ziehler of Kingfield, Maine and Katherin (Gavin) Gerhartz of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, Winter and Anneliese; two brothers, Richard (Mary) Lee of Elk River, Minnesota and Roger Lee of Grand Forks, North Dakota; a sister, Shirley (Tim) Webster of Harbor City, California; and other family members.
A celebration of Harland’s life will be held Friday, Aug. 5 at 4:00 P.M. at First United Lutheran Church. Rev. Todd W. Smith, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 2 hours prior to the service. Interment will take place at the church in the Garden of Peace .
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for First United Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Noon Lions Club, the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice or the Sons of Norway Vennskap Lodge.
The Family would like to thank the Staff of the Sharon S Richardson Hospice Center, Drs. Michael Brooks and Steven Kream and their staffs for all the support they have given Harland over the years. Our friends have become family and to that we will be forever grateful.
