Joanne Kress

Joanne was born November 2, 1932 in Milwaukee to Florian “Bud” and Angela “Angie” (Stieber) Freiburger. She was a graduate of Alverno College School of Nursing in Milwaukee.

Joanne was previously married to Edward Unterfenger.

For a number of years Joanne was employed in Chicago as an RN in an ENT Medical Practice.

Joanne relocated to Wisconsin in the early 70’s where she worked as an RN at St. Nicholas Hospital and later was employed at the Kohler Co. Medical Dept. until her retirement.

She met the love of her life, Herbert T. Kress whom she married on January 15, 1972. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2000.

Following retirement she worked part-time for Weight Watchers in Sheboygan County until 2010.

Joanne was a faithful member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler where she was active in church activities. She also enjoyed going to the Sheboygan Senior Center with her friends. Her hobbies included collecting clocks and she had a sizable angel collection. She always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress in her sunroom.

Joanne is survived by her son, Paul J. Unterfenger of Sheboygan; her step-daughters, Tami (Dirk) Hudson of Howards Grove and Debra Kress of Sheboygan; two granddaughters, Samantha and Izzie Hudson; long-time best friend, Susie Hahn; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Freiburger.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler by Rev. Robert J. Lotz. A time of visitation and support will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
