

Death came, as it must to all men, to Martin Potter, 92, of Sheboygan on Monday night, April 16, 2012 at Sharon S. Richardson Comm. Hospice. Martin was born on February 28, 1920, at home, 95 Lighthouse Court in Sheboygan, to immigrant parents from the Netherlands, Cornelius and Jeanette (Den Boer) Potter.
Martin graduated from Sheboygan Christian School in 1934 and from Sheboygan High School, class of 1938. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church.
In January, 1942, Martin enlisted in the Army Air Corp. After training, he was assigned as Parachute Inspector to the 98th bomb group. He served in Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunis, and Italy. He returned home on April 12, 1945 and was honorably discharged on June 16, 1945.
On June 13, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lois Dekker at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan.
His last twenty years of employment were with the now defunct Consolidated Freightways as a local driver. He retired in 1981 and was active in the local Teamsters Club.
He was content with a good book, a walk in God’s great outdoors, and time to smell roses.
In addition to his wife, Lois of 65 years, Martin is survived by three children, Pamela (Pastor Dave) Hicks of Aptos, CA, Mark (Pam) Potter of Goodyear, AZ, and Steve Potter of West Allis, WI; Seven grandchildren, Robin (Major Josh) Chartier, Carrie (Patrick) Steele, Wendy (Jeremy) Dailey, Kristy (Darin) Johnson, Chris Potter, Thom Potter, and Danielle Potter; seven great-grandchildren, Calvin, Carter, Caleb, and Camille Chartier, Jack Steele, Eli and and Faith Johnson; one brother, Raymond (Wilma) Potter of Sheboygan; one sister, Corrine Huissen of Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls; brothers and sisters-in-law, Audrey Potter of Sheboygan, Jim Dekker, Edward (Jackie) Dekker, Edythe Good, all of Naples, FL, Joan Verhulst of Portage, WI, Janet (Chris) Vande Guchte of Grandville, MI, Carol Dekker of Sheboygan, and Carla (Curtis) Walser of Clearwater Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by son, Paul; two brothers, Jacob and Edward; two sisters, Minnie Holtz and Evelyn Hopp.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M.on Monday, April 23, 2012 at First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Larry Meyer, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at church. Burial with military honors will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Chapel of Eternal Light in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Martin Potter for Sharon S. Richardson Comm. Hospice.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and volunteers of the Sharon S. Richardson Comm. Hospice for their loving care of Martin.
