He was born in Shenandoah on February 29, 1932 and was the son of the late Headley B. and Mamie C. Judd Morris.
Gary was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He served as an elder, financial secretary and property manager. He loved his church and the members and he never met a stranger.
He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1954. At the age of 18 he suffered an accident which left him handicapped. After recovery from surgery, he took a course in Electronics, worked with his brother Harold in Morris TV and Appliances. Eventually employed by Dunham-Bush, Inc. in Harrisonburg as an Electrical Design Draftsman, he retired in 1995 after 24 years.
Gary was a former member of Page County Economic Development Authority for 21 years; a member of Ashlar Lodge #125, AF & AM, served as District Director Grand Master for 1996-1997 and has been an instructor for many years. He joined Milnes Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star in 1990 and served as Worthy Patron for years 2013-2014. He was a life member of Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Department and helped teach hunter safety classes several times a year, he was also a member of AARP.
Gary had many hobbies, he was very talented and enjoyed repairing clocks, hunting and fishing, gardening, metal detecting and he also belonged to the Shenandoah Quilters Group, and loved to sew and make quilts.
On April 5, 1980 he married Joyce Beaghan Morris, his best friend and helpmate, who survives.
He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Morris Foltz of Shenandoah; a brother, Benjamin F. Morris, of Journeys Crossing in Elkton; many loving and loyal nieces.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, John, Harold, LeRoy, and Louis Morris, Gladys Comer, Elsie Housden and Ruth Rodgers.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah. During the visitation, Milnes Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Jim Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery with Masonic rites by Ashlar Lodge #125 AF & AM.
