Jerry Lee Dovel

Jerry Lee Dovel, 72, a resident of Shenandoah, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 10, 1941 in Shenandoah and was the son of the late Alvah A. “Smiles” and Dorothy Gay Dovel. Jerry graduated from Shenandoah High School and was an active member of Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren. He retired from General Electric Company after 50 years of service. He is survived by his wife Bonnie L. Housden Dovel, of Shenandoah; daughters, Robin Bailey and husband, Larry, of Stanley, Patricia Offenbacker and husband, William, of Churchville, Donna Crosby and husband, Heiskel, of Waynesboro, and Ashlie Smith and husband, Stevie, of Shenandoah; a son, Jason Dovel and wife, Suzanne, of Lexington, KY; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances May and her late husband, Charles May; and a brother, Larry Dovel and wife, Sharon, all of Shenandoah.

Mr. Dovel will be moved to Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren in Stanley on Monday, November 18, where friends may call after 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church Monday evening from 6-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 19, at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, 544 4th St., Shenandoah, VA 22849 or to Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren Church, c/o Picnic Shelter Fund, 2334 Honeyville Rd., Stanley, VA 22851. So sorry to hear about Jerry's passing. May the Lord who received him with open arms bring you peace and comfort. I was privileged to work with him at GE for many years. He gave me a great deal of education and council on a wide range of subjects making me a better man. He was a blessing and I thank God for knowing him and being able to call him friend.
