

She was born on May 28, 1921 in Elkton, and was the daughter of the late Vernice D. and Esta Nichols Coverstone.
After graduation from Elkton High School, she enlisted with the United States Navy, becoming a Navy WAVE. She was discharged with honor in November 1945 as Seaman First Class.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, AARP, and Avis O. Comer, VFW, Post #8613.
On July 4, 1946 she married Arthur Franklin Lucas, and they made their home in Shenandoah. Arthur was an Army veteran with service in the field during the D-Day Invasion by Allied Forces. Both were dedicated to support of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arthur survived a construction site collapse that killed others and lived with disability until his death on February 11, 1988.
She is survived by a brother, Harold “Pete” Coverstone of Arlington, VA; two sisters, Janice Strickler and her husband, Edward, and Bettie Huddle all of Elkton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, David, Mack, Paul and Ray Coverstone.
Ruth spent the last several years of life in the home of Violet Conley who has been a loving home caregiver for her.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 17, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jim Perry officiating.
