Angela Lynn Marie Shanks, age 54 of Germantown, departed from us on her birthday to rejoice with her mother, father, and sister in Heaven on Monday, August 17, 2020, due to battling health complications from cancer. Angela was a beloved mother of 4 children, published author, passionately loved animals and always put others before herself. Her keen remembrance of past memories with family were always the highlight of the good times reminisced, when new ones were not being made. Sarcasm, wit, selflessness and a loving presence will always be remembered of her. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Sr. and Dorothy Shanks; sister, Debbie Shanks and aunt, Julia “Cookie” Trumbo.
A Mother’s Love Can Only be Felt From Her, The Tears We Shed Are From The Love She Gives From Heaven Above. As she has left us to cherish her memory, her sons, Alex Milligan (Amanda Keith), Alan Jackson (Louise Ann), Eli Rowland; daughter, Christina Rowland (Shawn Turpin); grandchildren, Noah Dean, Romeo, Lleowyn, Sabrina Rose and Gunner Ray; her husband, Ian Costelli (estranged); boyfriend, Ike Eigenheer; sister, Cindy Webster (Rocky); brother, William Shanks, Jr. (Teresa); nieces, Jackie Shanks-Muth (Chris) and Jenny Shanks (Louis); nephews, Michael Shanks and William Shanks III (Cassandra); her furry friends Zelda and Tigger as well as many nieces, nephews, and admirable close friends.
Angela spent her younger years living with her family in Germantown Kentucky on Mulberry Street. She was born at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. At nine-month old, she was diagnosed for missing a hip socket and had to be put into a body cast for a year learning to crawl, followed by a leg brace for most of her younger childhood. Her resume began while she was in elementary school attending St. Elizabeth (St. Rose) helping her father in delivering newspapers for the Courier Journal. She went on to graduate from Presentation Academy in May of 1984 and attended some college at U of L, majoring in Art and Creative Writing. In 1986 she became a mommy and gave birth to her first child in October in the same hospital she was born. From that day on, she became a full-time mother doing whatever it took to support her children, nieces, nephews, and anyone in need of care. Her ear was always there for your worries, troubles and her words could always put the most broken person back on their feet with a smile of confidence. She loved all animals and would not hesitate to bring one home to be with the family.
Some of her favorite things were common sense, writing, visiting old cemeteries, anything supernatural, medievel/renaissance, thunderstorms, Victorian architecture, old photographs, stamps, postcards, old chat rooms (Atraice), many video games of the RPG genre, and sunflowers. Her favorite beverages were chocolate milk and hot cocoa. Her favorite superhero was her father and above all else, her favorite thing was a clean home.
Friends may pay their respects from 4 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Hardy-Close Funeral Home, 285 S. Buckman Street, Shepherdsville. Funeral Service will be conducted Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 7 pm in the chapel of Hardy-Close Funeral Home with cremation to follow.
