Dr. James “Rick” Cundiff Jr. of Shepherdsville, Kentucky passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday, July 10, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late James Cundiff Sr. and Lillian (Dever) Cundiff on Friday, November 25, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky.
After graduating medical school from the University of Louisville in 1974, Rick served the people of Shepherdsville and surrounding counties for nearly 40 years as a family practice physician with Family Medical Associates. Beloved by many, he was passionate about medicine. Dr. Cundiff, Doc to most, worked tirelessly to bring healthcare to underserved and rural communities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha (Kerns), his children, Melanie (David) Smith and J. Daniel (Christina) Cundiff; a grandson, Vincent Cundiff; his sisters, Deloris (John) Keller, and Beverly (Dave) Will.
In keeping with Dr. Cundiff’s wishes, cremation was chosen, and the family has entrusted Hardy-Close Funeral Home. A private Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a future date.
