Geraldine (Gerry) Williams Snyder, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 16, 2021. She was 96 years old. The lockdown mandated by Governor Beshear of Kentucky caused Gerry to be physically separated from her family and companion dog. This created anxiety and major depression for Gerry from which she lost her spirit and will to live (along with many residents of nursing homes across the state, who were isolated from their families and therefore passed prematurely).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Snyder; her parents Leonard and Vergie Williams; and siblings, Robert Williams, Norma Stansbury, Mildred Russell, and Margaret Quade.
Gerry graduated from Ursuline College and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught school over a period of 50 years in Shepherdsville and Louisville, Kentucky; Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Memphis, Tennessee, as well as being selected on several occasions to teach in Europe and Asia. Gerry loved to travel and visited many destinations around the world. She was active in church and attended regularly.
She leaves behind her daughters Vicki Loving and Janis Young; her grandchildren Brett Thomas (Dana) and Emilie Schwichtenberg (Evan); her great grandchildren Nova and Corbin Thomas; her beloved dog Tippy; her siblings Marvin Williams, C.L. Williams, and Bonnie Sabal; and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks go to the nurse practitioners and all the excellent staff at Nazareth Home on Newburg Road, in Louisville, for the genuine love and compassion they showed and the excellent care they provided to Gerry during her stay.
A private graveside service was held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Hebron Cemetery in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Hardy Close Funeral Home in Shepherdsville handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family requests that donations be made to TracysPaws Rescue at tracyspawsrescue.org/donate
