

James Thomas Kaufman, age 84, of Shepherdsville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was born to the late Herman and Freda Kaufman in Louisville on Wednesday, September 17, 1941.
James was a true outdoorsman that could live off the land. He loved to hunt and fish. His grandchildren lovingly called him “Papaw Spit Tobacco” because of his love for Redman chewing tobacco. He loved good old country music, Dallas Cowboys football and playing Spades. James also enjoyed a cold beer and a good Bearno’s pizza.He will be truly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Herman Kaufman, and Jeanette Crigler.
He leaves behind his daughters, Debra Sharpenstein (Chris), Lisa Nakos, and Bambi Morrison (Brian); his grandchildren, Christy, Jessica, Stephen, Whitney, Stephanie, Chase, Lexi, Jacob, and Jordyn; 9 great-grandchildren including his best bud, Shuggie; his special niece, Margaret Crigler and a host of other family and friends.
In keeping with Mr. Kaufman’ wishes have entrusted Hardy-Close Funeral Home with cremation services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
