Kathryn Diane Cook, best known as Diane, Mom, or Mamaw, to the ones who loved her most, passed away at home, surrounded by her beloved family, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Born on Wednesday, November 22, 1950, to Lindsay and Betty Cundiff, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Diane enjoyed a childhood of spending family time at the lake with her parents and brother, David. This was a tradition she loved so much that as soon as they could, she and her high school sweetheart, Perry, who she married in 1969 and celebrated 55 wonderful years with, bought property at the lake and spent as much time as they could there with their three boys, their friends, and their families. Almost all their summers were spent at the lake, where Diane got to do her absolute favorite thing-cooking for the entire crowd.
Diane loved taking care of people and making sure each person she was with felt loved. She radiated joy and was friends with everyone she met! Lake trips, holidays, special occasions, and any visit to the Cook home were famous for Diane’s legendary cooking. Lasagna and cheesecake were two crowd pleasers she was famous for making!
Diane used every opportunity she could to let people know they were loved and cared for. She was a beloved part of her community, serving as the Cedar Grove Elementary School secretary for more than thirty years, where she made countless students, families, and staff feel welcome and loved an impact that will be felt in the community for generations to come.
Cherishing her memory and missing her hugs and lasagna are her beloved husband, Perry, their three boys, Brian (Rachel), Steve (Dawn), and Mike (Amanda), her seven grandchildren, Paige Cook, Taylor Foote, Lilly Cook, Riley Cook, Beau Cook, Ally Sallee, and Addy Powell, her seven great-grandchildren, as well as one more on the way, and her brother, David Cundiff (Cheri), her Aunt Nora Mae Shepherd (Cecil) and her Uncle Dickie Dever (Vicki).
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Diane’s life at Hardy Close Funeral Home 285 South Buckman Street Shepherdsville, Ky, on Sunday, August 3rd from 2:00 pm-8:00 pm and Monday, August 4th at 9:30 am, with funeral service to follow at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
