

Arvil Earl “Tex” Shifflett, 82, of Shepherdsville, KY, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on October 21, 2025. Born on July 12, 1943, in Snyder, TX, Arvil was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1966, where he majored in Beef Cattle Production. Arvil served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY, working in the medical research laboratory. After his service, Arvil married the love of his life and started his family. He was a retired Teamster with Local 89 who worked with Smith’s Transfer and Faulkner Construction while also tending his family farm. He was one of the founding organizers of the Southeast Bullitt Fire Department and served as Deputy Fire Chief. Arvil was also a member of American Legion Post 157, Little Flock Baptist Church, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He had a deep love for his family and will be remembered for his work ethic, ingenuity, unique sense of humor, and tireless devotion to those he loved. His legacy of love, service, and faith will live on through all who knew him. Arvil was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Sadie Shifflett; his sister, Maggie Barnes; and his brothers, Ernest and Horace Shifflett. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Shifflett; his daughter, Alison Eldridge of Shepherdsville; his sons, Timothy (Jodi) Shifflett of Louisville and Steven (Ami) Shifflett of Shepherdsville; his grandchildren, Alyssa (Rahz) Brown, Adrian Shifflett, Mason Shifflett, Grace Eldridge, Benjamin Carpenter, and Hannah Shifflett; two great-grandchildren, Alayah and Raelynn; and his sisters, Vera Stansel of Dallas, TX, and Edith Witte of Snyder, TX. Funeral services will be held at Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home, with interment at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, from 1pm to 8pm with the funeral service on Monday, October 27, at 11am. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Kosair Charities.
