Mrs. Barbara (Lenenberger) Corbett-Peters, born on August 14, 1935 to the late Edith Florence (Norton) and Fredrich Robert Lenenberger, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025 at 89 years of age. She was the youngest of two daughters. Barbara attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and Presentation High School. While her older sister, Sister Norma Jean Lenenberger, dedicated her life to Jesus as a Sister of Charity of Nazareth, Barbara’s dream was to be a wife and mother.
After high school, she began working as a switchboard operator for the telephone company where she met several lifelong friends, including Barb Shaw who remained her friend for over 70 years. Regardless of how much time passed between seeing each other while raising kids and enjoying grand kids, they always remained best of friends.
In 1955, Barbara met the love of her life, Walter L. Corbett, and they married in 1956. They welcomed their first son, Mike, in 1957. They built a home in the Zoneton area of Northern Bullitt County to raise their family. There, they welcomed two more sons, Tom, then Paul, and completed their family with their fourth child, Angela, their only daughter. At this home, her neighbor, Robbie Cox, became another lifelong friend who meant so very much to her. They raised their kids together and their husbands were great friends too. Barbara enjoyed partnering with Walt in raising their kids and enjoying a variety of activities including baking homemade bread, canning the harvest of their garden, and weekend camping at Rough River where their kids enjoyed time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Barbara enjoyed being a wife and mother more than anything. She loved her family and taught them the importance of staying close to each other. She chose to work in the school lunchrooms so she could spend summers off with them and attend their extracurricular activities. She actively participated in her kids’ lives as a Den Mother in Boy Scouts, a co-leader in Girl Scouts, and sewing flags for the Marching Band flag corps. She and Walt took a memorable road trip out to the Pacific Northwest to visit their son, Tom, and proudly celebrate his love of the outdoors as a backcountry ranger in North Cascades National Park.
Barbara was happy to see all four of her adult children begin lives on their own. She welcomed their chosen partners with open arms and loved them as her own. Mike (Karen) brought her joy when they started their family and she became “mammaw” to their daughter, Christina (Brad, and great-grandkids, Adalyn and Cade), and their son, Josh (Nikki). She was devastated when her lifelong dream of growing old with Walt was cut short when her husband of 33 years left her widowed at the age of 54. She reluctantly faced into living independently when Walt died and began working as a receptionist at Bellarmine University and volunteering at the zoo to keep herself occupied. Her son, Tom (Harriet), brought her two more grandkids, Hannah (Ryan) and Forrest. And Paul (Carol) brought her a step-granddaughter, Cara (CJ and two great-grandkids, Finn and Reece). One of her final joys was to see Angie marry her husband, Chris, in December 2024 and welcome three more step-grandchildren (Andie, Eli, Katie) into the family.
In 1996, Barbara married her second husband, David Peters, Jr. They were married and loved each other for over 25 years until his passing in 2021. His sons, Randy (Sharon) and Skip (Susie) and their children became part of her beloved extended family.
Barbara was a lifelong Catholic and faithful follower of Jesus. Her latest years were spent as part of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillview, followed by St. Teresa Catholic Church in Fairdale. She loved her church community. She took comfort in praying the rosery daily and praying for her friends and family. Barbara's legacy of love, friendship, and faith will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
