My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mrs Bernice. Bernice was a wonderful woman that I met though my brother. He lived next door to her for many years and I enjoyed talking to her every time I would be over there for a visit. She always had a funny story to tell. Her and Pam continued to be a big part of my brothers life even after he moved away, opening up their home to him when he was down and out. She will be missed by many.

Bernice has always been such a loving and giving soul.  She has been there to watch our little girl turn into a young woman, always commenting on her beauty and giving parenting advice about carrying a big stick to knock the boys away.  She was there to celebrate the birth of our son and enjoy watching and laughing at us as we attempt to keep up with his fast paced life.   We could always count on Ms. Bernice to watch over our home when we were away, watch over our children as they were at play and watch over the neighborhood in a protective manner..a protective grandma watching over her own.   Bernice, you will be greatly missed.  Thank you for the childhood stories, Pillsbury biscuits and love you always shared.

We are truly going to miss our dear Friend Bernice.  She had a way of brighting the whole neighborhood when she would stop by.  You never knew what kind of joke she would say or do.  We will definitely miss those wonderful homemade biscuits and her famous chicken and dumplings.  The neighborhood will not be the same without her.

Bernice is my wife Pam's mom and my mother-in-law, but I called her Mom too. Bernice was not a typical mother-in-law, she was unique, one of a kind, special, and because she was loving like a mom, how could I not call her Mom? Especially so, since she often told me she thought of me like a son, not just a son-in-law, and I considered that a huge complement.    Bernice was a Mom to all of us:  Pam and I, Jimmy and Betty, and our families;  and she didn't have to be a Mom to me, she wanted to be. Mom nursed me back to health when I was down and out, having been hospitalized for over two months back in 2004. Bernice was the best, always. She drove me to doctor appointments, and did so whether they were the next town over or all the way to Louisville.  She even drove me downtown to the medical library when I had work.  She drove me anywhere I needed to go.    Bernice was great company too.  She had the best sense of humor and endless energy.  I was amazed how she could keep going nonstop, she put the energizer bunny to shame. And like Mom's do, Bernice fed us, and provided a lovely and loving home, not just for Pam and I but for everybody she knew, our friends, our neighbors, even people we only saw once a day like the mailman, or once a week like the garbage man, or every other week like Ronnie our "grass" man, or once a month like the meter man. They all knew the taste of Mom's kindness, and they all knew the taste of Mom's famous biscuits too!    And now not a week's gone by and I miss Mom more every day, and I'm sure I will continue to miss Mom for a very long time because as far as I am concerned there just isn't anybody that can take her place.  She was the best!

Bernice will be missed by so many. She was a great backyard neighbor who always looked out for everyone. As others have said she made great biscuits. Alayna remembers taking cookies to her at Christmas this year and said that she hoped she liked them.

Mamaw was always looking after others. She looked after me, loved me, and was always there if you needed her. She touched so many lives..She was the best and will be greatly missed.  Love you mamaw.  -Chris

I had the pleasure of meeting Bernice when I became friends with her daughter Pam.   Pam would invite me over for coffee and Bernice would have just made her wonderful famous biscuits.  She would often give me some for my husband.  She would often tell Pam to feed me. She reminded me of my own mother, who had past on, that I ask her if I could call her mom.  She agreed and I called her mom till her dying day.   I will miss her quick wit and her great personality.  She made me feel like I was one of the family.

The McDonalds would like to express our deepest condolences to Jim, Betty and the rest of the family.

Good bye Mamaw. I will so miss you and all of the things you did and wanted to do for me and my family. You were always asking me if I needed you to come out and help me with housework or when I was ill and you did. I'm thankful for those times, because I had lost my mother at such a young age. You watched my babies and cooked when I needed you and boy were you a good cook. You would call after you retired just to bring Jim and I supper many days; you always needed to be a Mother. I'm blessed to have you in my life, you first gave me Jim, my husband of nearly forty seven years, to which I was blessed with a beautiful son and daughter. They carried on to give us four fantastic GRANDchildren .I love you Mamaw, I'll miss you but I can hear the stories you're telling to Jesus right now and I know He's laughing and saying, "Thank You My Good and Faithful Servant". My precious mother.  The  most giving person I ever have known.  Raised my sister and me by herself and never received a penny in aid from the Gov.  She was my Mother, Father and protector.  My mother did without so much for my sister and I.  I could go on and on for she did so much and all of it for us and our children.  I really would like to continue but I am of such heavy heart now I cannot. Mom, I am in the world without you and this is the first time and I really cannot figure out how to do it.

Bernice (my mother) was such a giving, loving person.  Mom  raised my brother Jimmy and I all by herself with no help from anyone. She did without so we two kids wouldn't.  My Mom never met a stranger.  She made the best homemade biscuits (even though she also made biscuits at Pillsbury for almost 40 years). People around here called her the "Biscuit Lady."  Mom fed anything (cats, raccoons, etc) or anybody that looked hungry.  Mom made them for so many neighbors and they all wanted more.  She even took her famous biscuits to Lowes to the salesman there when she bought a new stove just to show her appreciation for his attention and concern that she get the best deal for her money. Every Tuesday Mom would make them for the garbage man (Larry).  When he came by she would have still warm biscuit and ham sandwiches ready for him. I wish I could make biscuits, chicken n' dumplings, fried chicken and so many other delicious foods like my dearest mother did.  Mom, my husband Tony and I, all live in the same house. Mom helped take care of us both , with the same motherly love, so many times, after our many surgeries and illnesses, so when she became ill it was our time to take care of her, and how much we loved being able to show Mom some of the kindnesses she shared with us over the years. This is the hardest thing I've ever gone through. I miss her so very much. Mom was the "Matriarch" of our family and a very good one. All of us will truly miss her.
