

Darrell Wayne Vanderwaal, who was born on January 14, 1957, in Lynwood, California, passed away on July 5, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by faith, service, devotion to family, and his kindness toward others.
Darrell was a Christian man whose life reflected the values he held dear. He served in the Army, an experience that spoke to his sense of duty and commitment to something greater than himself.
Family was at the center of Darrell’s life. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Vanderwaal; his son, Tim Vanderwaal; and three grandchildren, who brought him great joy and pride. He is also survived by his siblings, Doug Vanderwaal and Brenda Wilson. Darrell treasured the companionship of his loving neighbors, Ben and Melissa Kramarczyk, whose friendship was a meaningful part of his daily life. He also shared his home and heart with his beloved dogs, Laddie, Rex, and Gege, who were constant companions and a source of comfort and happiness.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Dorothy Vanderwaal, whose memory remained an important part of his life. Also preceding him was his daughter Sharon Flynn.
He found strength and fellowship through Southeast Christian Bullitt County Campus, where his faith and connection to community were important to him. His life was enriched by the relationships he built and the simple, faithful routines that gave him purpose. He will be remembered for his devotion to God, his loyalty to family, and the warmth he extended to those around him.
A visitation honoring Darrell will be at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home 123 Winning Colors Drive Mount Washington, Kentucky 40047 on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 10AM to 12PM. A funeral service will directly follow at 12PM.
