Donald “Donnie” Charles Sohm, age 84, passed away on August 11, 2026. He was born on June 13, 1942, to the late, Frank Edward and Mary Louis Sohm, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and was a resident of Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
A life well lived was marked by adventure, curiosity, and an appreciation for the beauty of the world around him.
Donnie proudly served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam war, answering his country’s call to duty and carrying that experience with him throughout his life. He was also a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
For 20 years, Donnie worked as a card dealer in Las Vegas, becoming part of the excitement and energy of the city. Beyond his work, however, he was a true traveler at heart. He spent much of his time exploring the western United States, seeking out new places and experiences along the way.
He had a deep love for nature and enjoyed hiking, being outdoors, and simply taking in the beauty of the world around him. An avid photographer, he found joy in capturing the landscapes, moments, and memories that made his travels special.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Sohm; a sister, Sharon Coe; and nephews, Stevie Karr and Dennie Sohm.
Left to remember his adventurous spirit, his love for the outdoors, and the many stories and photographs are: a sister, Patsy Karr; brother, John Sohm; 6 nieces; and 6 nephews: and several great nieces and nephews.
A prayer vigil will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Hardy Close Funeral Home, 285 S. Buckman Street, Shepherdsville, KY 40165.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of prayer vigil.
