65, of Shepherdsville passed away on Monday October 17, 2016. Joyce loved her dogs, working in her yard, and the Louisville Cardinals but most of all she loved her family, especially her three beloved grandchildren.
Joyce was born in Louisville, KY on March 30, 1951. At the age of 16, she left Ahrens Trade School to adopt and raise her three younger siblings. By the time she was 18, Joyce had a family of five. Always a believer in hard work, she helped support her family by working at Lorillard Tobacco Company, following the plant to North Carolina before retiring back to Louisville after nearly thirty years. Joyce spent 10 years at Sav-A-Lot in Hillview in her early retirement. The last 20 years has been dedicated to nurturing two new generations as the matriarch of her family. Joyce had a special relationship with her siblings; forged in the tension of being a young mother. This extended to her seven nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews that looked to her as a grandmother, not as an aunt. Joyce's presence was as consistent as her influence was great.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Duvall; her brothers, Michael & Larry Robert Duvall; and her sister, Donna Burden. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mark Lacefield; sister, Diane Graham (Fred); son, Darrin (Jennifer); daughter, Dedra Hayden (Bill); three grandchildren, Abbie Hayden, Molly Malone and Trey Hayden; four nephews, Chris & Scottie Duvall, Lee Graham and Travis Burden; and three nieces, Stephanie Deitchman, Brandy Duvall and Sara Graham; and her constant canine companions, Sally and Jack.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home, Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd. with burial in Brookland Cemetery to follow. Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 1 to 8 pm and from 10:00 am until the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
