Larry Leslie Downey, Sr.

Mr. Larry Leslie Downey, Sr., age 76, of Hillview returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Mr. Downey was born in Henry County, Kentucky on September 12, 1942 to the late Boyd and Alma (Aldridge) Downey.  He was a Navy veteran and a truck driver of the U.S. Post Office. Mr. Downey loved his dogs, his antique cars and was a member of the National Hot Rod Association.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 37 years, Rita (Mattingly) Downey; son, Ray Downey; and brothers, Boyd Wayne Downey, Sr., Horace Downey and Billy Hughes.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Larry L. Downey, Jr.; grandson, Austin Downey; brothers, Howard Downey, Billy Ray Downey, Mark Willis, Steve Hughes and Maxie Hughes; sister, Edye Rivera; his two fur-babies, Chica and Meko; and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2019 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with cremation to follow. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. www.subfuneralhome.com
