Michael "Mike" Thomas Coop, Sr.

Michael “Mike” Coop, Sr., age 70, of Louisville, Ky passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at home with his family by his side. Mike was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 5, 1955, to the late Cecil and Barbara Coop. Michael was a graduate of Southern High School. Mike “Fairdale” retired from Ford Motor Company LAP Plant after 30 years of service. Mike was a member of Okolona Baptist Church, a loving and devoted husband, father and Papaw. He was a diehard University of Kentucky and Cincinnati Reds fan. He enjoyed NASCAR races and enjoyed camping and boating at Dale Hollow Lake. “Sr.” loved racing slot cars at Bullitt Speedway with his son “Jr”.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a host of aunts and uncles who were more like siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Sharon Coop, son Michael Coop Jr. (Lindsay), 2 grandchildren Thomas and Stephen Coop, Honorary grandchildren Leelynn and Corbin Cheser, honorary son Joseph Bohannon (Stacena). Along with a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mike will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy, at John Harper Freeway). The visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Monday July 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
