Robert "Bob" L. Owen

Mr. Robert “Bob” L. Owen, age 83, of Mt. Washington, Ky, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, November 11, 2022. Bob was born on July 25, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late James W. Owen and Catherine E. (Doerr) Owen. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, and the Kentucky National Guard, he was a 3rd degree Mason in Salt River Lodge 180 in Mt. Washington, and Scottish Rite Mason 32 degree. In Bob’s youth, his hobbies included horses and cars, although his high school yearbook says cars and girls. In his adult life he was a carpet installer for 40 years, installing flooring in many of the new houses built-in South-Central Kentucky for The Carpet Store in Elizabethtown. He enjoyed bowling and pitching horseshoes and earned many pitching trophies. He also enjoyed CB radio for a time, his handle was “Carpet Tack”, He enjoyed welding and repairing small engines, especially lawn mowers. Most recently, he loved to try new recipes, especially modifying cake mixes and making cookies. But, what he enjoyed the most was the casual neighborhood meetings on his front porch. During the Pandemic, he discovered the online live stream church services from Bethany United Methodist Church, which he enjoyed every Sunday morning. He passed peacefully surrounded by family and our Pastor.

He is survived by his daughter Kristi Brown (Tim), brother Bill Owen, and sister Sharon Whartenby (Clyde).

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 18, 2022, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 1p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
