Mrs. Sally Lee (Searcy) Tate, age 68, returned to her Heavenly Father on February 2, 2020. Mrs. Tate was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 22, 1951 to Charlotte (McCoy) Searcy and the late Elden Searcy. Mrs. Tate was a member of the Okolona Christian Church and a homemaker. Sally was a dedicated mother who never missed a show, ballgame, recital, or gymnastics competition when her daughter was young. More recently, she was a devoted grandma who absolutely adored hearing her granddaughter sing. She attended every show and would always find her way to the front row. She traveled as far as New York, Walt Disney World, and even went on a cruise to watch her perform. Sally had an extremely large family that she treasured with all her heart. Although distance separated most of them, she often talked on the phone until all hours of the night. Sally cherished her family and valued the time she spent creating memories with them. She always said she had the best mother, father, brother, husband, daughter, and granddaughter a person could have, and she truly believed it. Sally was an exceptionally caring and thoughtful person. She could find a greeting card for any occasion imaginable and never missed an opportunity to send “snail mail” to her family. She enjoyed playing games such as Euchre, Yahtzee, Bunco, and 10,000. Sally loved to try her luck playing the slots at the casino. She liked watching sports but couldn’t decide whether to choose UK or UofL as her favorite team, so she cheered for both. Sally’s family teased her by saying she wasn’t particularly athletic, but she could do the splits as well as an Olympic gymnast even a couple of months ago. She was the life of the party and usually found her way to the dance floor. Sally was the heart of the family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, James E. Tate; daughter, Melissa Anne Cohen; granddaughter, Haley Rose Cohen; mother, Charlotte Searcy; brother, Danny Elden Searcy (Debby); nephew, D.J. Searcy; niece, Julie Anne Williams (Chris); and other dear family and friends.
The family has chosen cremation, and they are planning a private memorial service at Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home. www.subfuneralhome.com
