Vera Lee Coomes

Mrs. Vera L. Coomes, age 76, of Shepherdsville, Ky returned to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. She was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on April 28, 1947, to the late Grant Muncy and Lilly (Lasley) Muncy. Vera retired from University of Louisville and St. Anthony Hospital with 26 years of service as a heart monitor tech. She will be remembered by many for the hours she spent volunteering with children at Freedom Elementary and Hebron Middle School. She loved nature, she had a strong faith, everyone who met her knew she had a special quality they would never forget. Most importantly she loved her husband, children, and grandchildren. Vera will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Grant Muncy, Jr., Howard Muncy and Pearl Muncy, sisters Birdie Muncy, and Gretta Muncy.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Michael Coomes, her daughters, Lilly Coomes, Theresa Payne (Joe), Elizabeth Coomes-Driskell (Jen), and her son Michael Coomes (Tammy), her seven grandchildren, Allison Anderson-Coomes, Devin Payne, Mason Payne, LeAnn Hornback, Trey Hornback, Clay Coomes, and Luke Coomes. Along with a host of nieces and nephews and other dear family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with cremation to follow. Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) will welcome family and friends for visitation on Monday, May 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
