Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, November 8, 2015, with Deacon Joe Machacek officiating.
Daniel was born on October 10, 1923 in Shiner, Texas. He was the son of Fred and Magdelen (Janish) Veit. He was a farm hand in his teens. At the age of 18, Daniel was drafted into the US Army. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the WWII Victory Medal. When he returned home, he married Dorothy Bolech on January 7, 1946 at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. He enjoyed farming and ranching, and taking care of his vegetable garden. He did volunteer work. He liked to go fishing in his spare time. He was a member of the American Legion post 0201 for 65 years, and a member of the VFW for 10 years. He was employed by Kaspar Wire Works for 35 years until his retirement.
He is survived by one son; David Veit and his wife, Cindy of Round Rock, Texas, one daughter; Debbie Muelker and her husband, Gary of Fort Worth, Texas, two brothers; Henry Veit and his wife, Jan of Houston, Texas, Jerry Veit and his wife, Maureen of Aubrey, Texas, five sisters; Gladys Morgan of Robstown, Texas, Frieda Malik of Llano, Texas, Doris Shoulders and her husband, Bob of Houston, Texas, Mary Ann Malik of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Susan Tracy of Henderson Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Magdelen Veit, two brothers; Freddy Veit, Victor Veit, three sisters; Benita Kasparak, Lillian Schaeffer, and Mary Veit.
