Doris M. Hajek Doris Marie Hajek passed into the arms of her heavenly father on February 19, 2018. A rosary was recited in her honor on Wednesday, February 21st, at the Buffington Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on Thursday, February 22, at 10:00 am followed by burial services at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. The pallbearers included: Marshall Hajek, Trevor Hajek, Daryl Hajek, Neal Hajek, Thomas Jones, and Matthew Seale. Doris was born on July 16, 1929 to August and Ida Seifert. Her family lived in the Henkhaus Community. She attended Evergreen School and worked at the Henkhaus Store for the Frank Malina family. She married Laddie C. Hajek on October 24, 1949. Doris was a homemaker with a love for her vegetable garden and raising flowers. In addition, she served as a caretaker for Mrs. Alma Kempe for 13 years. After some time, Laddie and Doris were admitted as patients at the Shiner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. As a resident, she enjoyed bingo, crafts, attending religious services of all denominations, going on trips on the SNRC bus, going to all the parties, and spending time with all her friends. She was crowned the 2012 Shiner Nursing Home Queen and also the 2012 Area Nursing Home Queen. She is survived by her three children: Jo Ann Welch (Steve), Donald Hajek (Claudine), Patrick Hajek (Kim); 7 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kurtz; one sister-in-law, LaVerne Hajek; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Laddie, her parents, 4 brothers (Charlie, Allen, Elo, and Walter); and 3 sisters (Amanda Wenetschlaeger, Margaret Gilbert, and Edith Knod). As a resident of SNRC, Doris was honored and privileged to know and be loved by some unsung individuals with the names of Lu Ann, Diane, Terry, Misty, Kathy, Virginia, Douglas, Vivian, Karen, Tiffany, and many more. She relied on these individuals when she endured her individual struggles as did the rest of her family. We all hope to be as lucky as we go forward into our later years. Memorial Gifts may be made in Doris’s honor to the Shiner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to the Activity Fund or a contribution of your choice.
