She was born on October 12, 1935 in Nada, Texas to John & Lillie (Herzik) Hoelscher. She married the love of her life, August, on November 8, 1958 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada. She was a homemaker.
In her early years, she raised five children while maintaining a working farm. She was known for her baking and always welcomed nephews and nieces to spend time on the farm with the family. Her family was her life. She enjoyed visiting and talking on the phone with her family and many friends. She was a very spiritual person.
Janie was a Member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Wied K.J.Z.T. and K.J.T., and the Sweet Home American Legion Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held at Buffington Funeral Home on Thursday, July 4, between 1 – 3 p.m. Visitation will continue at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Hallettsville, Texas followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. John Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Arriaga, Ryan Arriaga, Alton Pohl, Matthew Pohl, Trevor Fikac, Blake Pohl, and Cody Fikac. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Karen and her husband, Chris Roznovsky of Shiner, Texas, Janet Pohl of Shiner, Texas, Roman and his wife, Pam Fikac of Victoria, Texas, Mary Ann and her husband, Donald Motal of Hallettsville, Texas and Anthony and his wife, Debbie Fikac of Honolulu, Hawaii. Fourteen grandchildren: Jenna (Kurt) Knesek, Krystal (Bradley) Berger, Alton Pohl, Matthew Pohl, Blake Pohl, Kayla (Riley) Boening, Alicia (Matthew) Lanik, Trevor Fikac, Thomas (Sarah) Arriaga, Amy (Trey) Curtis, Ryan Arriaga, Cristal Shimamura, Kara (Curtis) Lee, and Cody Fikac. Eleven great grandchildren: Avery & August Knesek, Cooper & Knox Boening, Lainey & Layton Lanik, Makayla Trujillo, Kiera & Keaton Curtis, and Tyler & Cadence Arriaga. Beloved twin sister, Lillie Mae Underwood, sisters, Katherine Berger, Carolyn (Don) Shutts, and Barbara Lipinsky. Brothers, John (Susan) Hoelscher and Michael (Karen) Hoelscher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Katherine, three brothers, Joe, Andrew & James Hoelscher sister, Rosemarie Svetlik, and son-in-law, Daniel Pohl.
