Linda, I heard of the death of Johnnie this past Tuesday morning and immediately remembered my two brothers and my visit with him two or three years ago. I had not seen him for at least 60 years. Another memory that stayed with me was an event that happened on July 15, 1944, the day my youngest brother was born. Johnnie was playing with us, my three brothers and me, and we found a batch of new-born puppies under the old hall on St. Cyril & Methodius Church's property. We took one home but were made to take it back. At that time we lived at what I now believe is 822 St. Ludmila in the house my dad built in 1938. (He had also built a store/gas station adjacent to it on the southwest corer of Runk and St. Ludmila, that was torn down in 1946, I beleive, and the lumber was used by your mother-in-law to either build or add on to the house you now live in. WE also had a common uncle, Martin Dusek. Uncle Martin married my oldest aunt, Mary Dusek, who at age 5 years arrived in Shiner with her parents from Bohemia.) A death of a loved-one or friend always brings to light fond memories of times past. It has in this case. The fond memories you have of him, with the grace of God, will sustain you in your time of grief. My wife and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your son on this loss; we will remember you in our prayers.
