Alice was born on November 3, 1944, in Bodcaw, Arkansas, to Willard G. May and Oda May. On March 8, 1964, she was joined in holy matrimony to William B. Whitton of Shreveport, Louisiana, with whom she built a life, a family, and a home rooted in love, faith, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and a sister, Evelyn Dorman of Magnolia, Texas.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Donna Whitton McCally and husband Michael McCally of Van Alstyne, Texas; her son, William Paul Whitton and wife Lisa Whitton of Shreveport, Louisiana; her granddaughter, Jessie Alexis Whitton of Shreveport, Louisiana; her brother, Gordon May of Bossier City, Louisiana; and her sisters, Mary Jane Baker of Longview, Texas, and Diane Slack of Forney, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved deeply.
Alice was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She will be remembered by those who knew her best for the meticulous care she took in her surroundings, her appearance, her manners, and the many details that made others feel special and cared for. She had high standards, a strong sense of what was right, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.
Her Christian faith was a steady source of strength throughout her life. Raised in the Baptist tradition, Alice held firmly to her belief in God and found comfort in Scripture, hymns, prayer, and the promises of Christ. Her home reflected that faith, filled with Bibles, study guides, and reminders of the hope she carried through many personal trials.
Alice expressed her love in thoughtful and practical ways. Through the years, she prepared signature dishes for family, friends, holidays, and special occasions, and she took joy in visiting the people she loved. Whether through a carefully prepared meal, a remembered detail, or the effort she made to show up for others, Alice took pride in making things beautiful, thoughtful, and well done.
Alice leaves behind a legacy of care, conviction, generosity, hospitality, and faith. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The family extends special thanks to Caddo Parish EMS and to the emergency room, ICU, and fourth floor nurses, doctors, and staff of Willis-Knighton Pierremont Hospital for their skill, compassion, and care during Alice’s final days and hours.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with the funeral service immediately following from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home and Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71118.
