During his formative years, Ancle held various jobs, including working at a fishing tackle shop, being a paper boy, and working at the drive-in theater. In January of 1953, he was drafted into the US Army and was based in Fort Sam, Houston, Texas. His service was honorable, and he was discharged in January 1955 with the rank of PFC. Following this, he began his career as an assistant store manager at Kroger. His journey led him to the H.J. Heinz Co., where he achieved his proudest career milestone as an account executive. He took great pride in his well-earned retirement belt buckle and loved to show it to others.
At the young ages of 23 and 19, they caught each other’s eye, and the story goes that Myra would often make trips to the grocery store where he worked for things she had forgotten. They married on January 3, 1956, and their marriage was a testament to true love, weathering any storm that came their way. He was a devoted husband and father, setting a shining example for those around him. He raised three children and opened his home to numerous foster children. His proudest family moment was when he realized that he, Myra, and their three children had all been baptized into Christ. He was also immensely proud of his children’s achievements, one becoming a doctor, another a teacher, and the third a nurse.
He was patriotic, as noted by his favorite colors, red, white, and blue. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends in their RVs while exploring the West; he liked yard work and chasing the varmints away. The Squirrel was his number one nemesis, and being the great inventor, he was continually coming up with something new to keep them away from his bird feeders. He was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing with friends, children, and grandchildren. He could see a problem and create a solution, easily seen by all the self-made gadgets in his tool shed.
Ancle was a member of University and Southern Hills Church of Christ, where he devoted himself to serving the Lord. He took great pride in being a disciple of Christ and helping others experience the transformative power of God’s love. His deep love for the Lord and extensive knowledge of scripture led him to write several pamphlets he shared to teach others how to inherit eternal life. He considered his most significant achievement to be the TV spots he ran on: The Truth, The Light, and The Word.
Ancle will be fondly remembered for his deep love for the Lord, his family, and his friends. His caring nature and impact on those around him will forever be cherished.
