Annie Clark Powell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on January 24, 1943, and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, family, and friendship that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
On June 1, 1962, Annie married her sweetheart, James H. Powell. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. They had the joy of raising their three children and later the privilege of spoiling their grandchildren. In their golden years, Annie and James especially enjoyed traveling to Arkansas, where they loved visiting in the fall and taking in the beautiful changing colors of the season.
Annie was a woman of deep and enduring faith. Her relationship with God was at the heart of her life, and she was a faithful member and pillar of her church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, worked with Children’s Church, and was always willing to serve others, including preparing and serving food. Annie found great comfort and joy in the old gospel hymns, which brought her peace, comfort, and a deep sense of closeness to God.
Annie was also active with the PTA at Sunset Acres Elementary, where she formed a lifelong friendship with Donna Harris. Their friendship was filled with laughter, shopping trips, good food, and countless memories. Annie and Donna especially enjoyed their weekly visits to Raising Cane’s. They always sat in the same place, so regularly that the Cane’s crew knew Annie by sight—and knew exactly what she would order when she walked through the door. Those simple moments became treasured memories of a friendship that lasted a lifetime.
Annie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, her generous heart, and the many ways she cared for those around her. She found joy in the simple things: time with family, a beautiful autumn day in Arkansas, a favorite gospel hymn, a shopping trip with a dear friend, or a familiar meal shared with someone she loved.
Annie is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Murray (Howard); her son, Kevin Powell (Kelly); her grandson, Christopher Hunter (Heather); her granddaughters, Kayla Hunter (Joe), Kelsey Hunter, Evelyn Murray, Katelin Flores (K.J.); her great-grandchildren, Reagan Hunter and Kasen Flores; her brother, Tommy Clark; her forever friend, Donna Harris; and numerous extended family members, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Powell; her father, Talmadge Dewey Clark; her mother, Martha Evelyn Keith; her daughter, Donna Greer (Landis); her son, Matthew Powell; her infant granddaughter, Jaclyn Murray; and her brothers, Leonard “Lynn” Clark and Dan Clark.
Though Annie will be deeply missed, her love, laughter, and faith will continue to live on through the family and friends she cherished. The memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she gave so freely will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
