Barbara Harrison

Barbara was born on July 24, 1940, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to Nellie and Peter Sugden. She grew up in Pittsburgh and during the 1960’s she followed her parents to Florida where she worked as a secretary at the VA hospital in Tampa. She spent most of her life as a full-time wife and mother.

Barbara married David Harrison on February 25, 1966, and they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2023. She felt his absence deeply, and their enduring love remained a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. Together they raised two children, Steven and Carolyn.

Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading, watching birds, and spending time outdoors. She had a special affection for trees, admiring their beauty, strength, and enduring presence through the seasons. David and Barbara liked to travel whenever they got the chance, visit friends, and spend their weekends searching for treasures at garage sales and estate sales.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; mother; father; sister, Jean Hoover; brother-in-law, Mark Hoover; sister, Shirley Spence; and brother-in-law, John Spence.

She is survived by her son, Steven Harrison and his wife Leona; daughter, Carolyn Richard and her husband Scott; five grandchildren, Marina, Blair and Tabetha Harrison, Harrison and Alexandra Richard; and niece Carol Spence.

A memorial service for Barbara will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution to their local library or to the Arbor Day Foundation in Barbara's memory.
