Bette Miller Hilton,78, passed away on Thursday, January 29,2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on December 19, 1947, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Herbert and Hilda Miller, nee Robinson. She grew up in Junction City, Arkansas, where her love of learning and faith began to take root.
Bette graduated from Louisiana Tech University at the age of 20 and immediately began her teaching career in Shreveport, Louisiana. She devoted her professional life to serving young people as an English teacher and high school librarian, a calling she pursued with compassion, patience, and enthusiasm.
A devoted Christian, Bette lived her faith openly and joyfully. She was active in her church throughout her life and especially loved serving through music as a member of church choirs.
Bette shared a special love story with her husband, Tom Hilton. They were college sweethearts who spent more than 25 years apart before being blessed with a reunion and marriage in 1997. Their journey together was a testament to enduring love and God’s perfect timing.
She is survived by her children, Garrett Larance (Nelita) and Lynse Guerra; her stepchild, Max Hilton; and her grandchildren, Isa Guerra, Sophie Guerra, Ava Guerra, Alex Barbu, and Shaelyn Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Hilda Miller; her beloved husband, Tom Hilton; and her stepdaughter, Alicia Hilton Bell.
After more than a decade of suffering from dementia, Bette is now fully restored and at peace in heaven, reunited with her husband and embraced in the presence of the Lord she faithfully served throughout her life.
A visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, located at 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA, 71108, on February 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue at 11:00 am.
Bette will be laid to rest at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens in Ruston, Louisiana.
