Betty Sue Gongre Matthews, age 70, of Bethany, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Born to Leonard Gongre and Anna Marie Murphy Gongre, Betty's life was defined by love, family, and her unwavering devotion to those she cherished.
Betty had a successful career in real estate, but her greatest joy came from caring for her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. Her love and warmth touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion.
She is survived by her son, Richard "Bubba" Warren; daughters Rachel Warren Watts and Christy Warren Mueller; sisters Ruth Ann Cothran, Bobbie Brown, and Barbara Seegers; grandchildren Chasity Warren Knight, Carol Furr Kozik, Jessica Mangrum, and Dylan Warren; and great-grandchildren Zaine Knight, Zoie Knight, Kai Michael Kozik, Lenny Klaine Lyday, and Landon Lyday.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Mikal Matthews; her parents, Leonard and Anna Marie Gongre; and her sister, Wanda Jean Phillips.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held during a graveside service on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108.
Betty will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
