Bonnie Faye McDaniel Floyd, 88, of Nashville, Tennessee, long-time resident of Shreveport, Louisiana, and originally from Carthage, Texas, crossed the threshold of this life into the presence of her Savior unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Summit Hospital of Hermitage, Tennessee, with her family by her side.
Faye was born on December 26, 1931, in Panola County, Texas, to the late Robert H. and Dortha Mae Roe McDaniel. She grew up in Carthage, Texas, where she graduated from Carthage High School. Following high school, she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, and worked for Southern Bell as a telephone
operator until her marriage to Jake D. Floyd.
She was a loving wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Family time together was her greatest joy and friends knew they could always find a cup of coffee along with a piece of cake or pie in Faye’s kitchen. Her greatest legacy was in loving her family well and grounding her home and her children in faith in Jesus Christ.
Faye was a long-time member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Training Union teacher, WMU group leader and in many other volunteer roles. She was actively involved in parent organizations throughout her daughters’ school years, and worked as a volunteer with the Northwest Louisiana Blood Bank and the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jake D. Floyd of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Cynthia Floyd, of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Constance Allen and son Jack Gordon Allen of Gulfport, Mississippi; daughter Cheree Bailey and husband Robert T. and sons Robert Thomas Bailey, III, Jacob McDaniel Bailey, and William Boyd Bailey of Nashville, Tennessee; brother James Russell McDaniel and wife Anna Faye of Scottsville, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Alan Floyd and her infant daughter, Darlene Floyd.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 29th from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the Centuries Memorial Funeral home, Shreveport, Louisiana, with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be son-in-law, grandsons, and long-time friend, Mike Hanks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
