Byron "I.B." Longino, age 94, of Shreveport, Louisiana went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2023. Byron was born January 30, 1928 on Black Lake near Campti, Louisiana to John Willis and Victoria Mathis Longino.
Byron moved to Shreveport in 1929 and grew up in Cedar Grove. He graduated from Byrd High School in 1945. While still in high school, Byron went to work at Southern Bell Telephone Company at the age of 16. He retired from Bell System with 40 years of service. Byron served in the United States Army in Washington, D.C., where he met and married Martha Sue Nichols from West Virginia. Byron was known for his strong work ethic. Even after retirement he stayed busy buying and selling antiques. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Houston Astros fan.
Byron was a member of Southside Baptist Church since childhood and served there for over 50 years. Later in life he was a faithful member of Kingston Road Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best and loved him most.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 68 years, Martha Longino and six (6) siblings.
He is survived by five children, Barbara Webster (James), Karen Leon, Byron Longino (Linda), Kathy Longino and John Longino. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great granchild.
A visitation for Byron will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Pavilion at Centuries Memorial Park. Rev. Scott Shirley will be officiating the service. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Matt Webster, Brad Webster, James Webster, Jeff Gaydos, John Longino and Byron Longino and Scott Shirley.
