Carl A. Moentmann passed away on February 22, 2021. Born on September 7, 1928 in Oak Park, Illinois, Mr. Moentmann was a resident of Shreveport since 1972. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Gladys Schaper Moentmann, his parents, three sisters and brother. After serving in the Korean War, he joined Sunbeam Appliance Company in Chicago, where he worked for over 25 years, eventually moving south to become the manager of its plant in Coushatta, LA. Upon retirement, Carl also lent his skills to the Shreveport-based Construction Safety Products, only fully retiring a few years ago at age 87.
A lifelong Lutheran, Carl was most recently a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, he was active in any congregation to which he belonged, whether in the Chicago area or in Shreveport. Carl served those congregations in a variety of roles, including congregational president, Sunday school superintendent, usher and choir member.
Mr. Moentmann is survived by his son, Tim Moentmann and wife, Belinda of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Elise Moentmann of Portland, OR; granddaughter, J’nell Sanderson and husband, Josh of Choudrant, LA; grandson, Garrett Moentmann of Odessa, TX; great-granddaughters, Addison and Ella Sanderson of Choudrant, LA ; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Centuries Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 30 at 10:00 a.m. The family request that any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Christus Hospice & Palliative Care and the staff of The Glen Retirement Community, especially at Village Heath Care.
