Carolyn was born in Naborton, Louisiana, November 16, 1931, and passed away on March 31, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Mabel Fultz, and her sister, Charlotte F. Huson. Carolyn's only living relative is a great nephew, Jeremy Huson, whom she raised as her own.
Carolyn was a graduate of Northwestern State University with further studies in Sociology and Accounting at McNeese State College and at Louisiana State University - Shreveport. At Northwestern she received her degrees in Education and Mathematics, participated in theatrical and modern dance productions, was cheerleader for three (3) years, a member of Phi Kappa Sigma sorority, a member of the Swimming and Aquatic teams and sang with the college choir including a performance at the "Breakfast Club" of Chicago. After college, she sang with the First Methodist and St. Luke Methodist choirs in Shreveport and with First Assembly of God where she performed with the "Songs of the Season" production. She also was active in stage productions in Lake Charles, La and the Port Players of Shreveport.
After teaching a year, Carolyn became a Federal Civil Service employee in the Accounting Division at Lake Charles Air Force Base. At age 24, she was transferred to Barksdale Air Force Base as head of the Non-Appropriated Funds Division. She later was an employee of Caddo Parish in the Social Service Department where she remained for 15 years. Those fifteen (15) years were spent working with the elderly and disabled which led to her career as a Nursing Home Administrator and Assisted Living Administrator. She was the Administrator of Pierremont Heritage Manor Nursing Home for thirty (30) years during which time it was considered the best nursing home in the state of Louisiana. She loved and cared for her staff like family, and the care of her patients came before nursing home profit. She was the first administrator to separate the sicker and Alzheimer patients from those more well. Although she was criticized for doing so, times finally caught up with her foresight and good sense regarding her patients. She retired in September, 1995, and was always grateful for her loyal staff, many of whom referred to her as "Momma".
Carolyn's love of animals filled her life. She raised and showed dogs and horses including her beautiful Tennessee Walker. In addition, she raised and bred Missouri Fox Trotters and Miniatures. Her precious dogs will be adopted by Carolyn's long-time friend, Patricia Meador. A special thanks goes to Linda Atkins for her faithful care of Carolyn.
A Memorial Service will be held at in the old sanctuary of The Community Church at 5720 Buncombe Road with Pastor Denny Duron officiating at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
