

Shreveport, LA- A Christian funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home for Charles Edward Cole, 89, who passed away on August 29, 2016. Officiating will be Pastor Jimmy Sistrunk who is a longtime friend of the family. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave.
Charles was born at home on November 3, 1926 in Spencer, LA and was raised in Marion, LA. In 1944, at the age of 17, while attending the University of Alabama he made the decision to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After enlisting, he joined the Navy V-12 / V-5 Aviation Cadet Program at Howard College in Birmingham, AL. After VE Day he returned to Huttig, AR with his wife, Pat to work in the logging industry with his father. In 1949, they moved to Shreveport, LA where he began his career in the dry ice and gas industry. Charles and Pat made Shreveport their home and resided here the rest of their lives.
Charles was a dedicated and devoted husband and father. He was patient, understanding and strict when necessary. Charles believed that honesty and integrity were the most important virtues to possess and the basis of the way to live. He was a long-time member of Morningside Baptist Church and Kingston Road Baptist Church. Charles was also a member of The American Legion and BOP Elks.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lee “Pat” Sample Cole; daughter, Melody Shannon Cole Graham; parents, Charlie and Ruby Green Cole; one brother, Boyd Cole and two sisters, Inez Cole and Betty Dunn.
Charles is survived by his son, Dion and wife Patricia Frantz Cole of Katy, TX; daughter, Alliece Cole of Baton Rouge, LA; one grandson, Benjamin Teekell and wife Autumn of Baton Rouge, LA; two great granddaughters, Ashtyn and Addisyn Teekell of Baton Rouge, LA; two brothers, James Cole and wife Ruth and Leroy Cole and wife Connie and one sister, Bobby Jo Krause. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In his own words Charles said, “I have had the good life. I have enjoyed my family and my work.”
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Garden Park Nursing Home for the warm relationships and excellent care shown to Charles.
