It is with heavy hearts and sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Marcell "Chuck" Upchurch, Sr., or Papaw as he was affectionately and lovingly known, of Keithville, LA on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the age of 82.
Papaw was often a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes of the deep love he felt for his family. Papaw was not one to sit indoors and loved being outdoors enjoying his love for fishing, gardening, or just tinkering around the homestead. If you didn't find him in the yard with the wheelbarrow picking up limbs and cleaning up with his favorite dog by his side, you could find him on his favorite zero turn manicuring his lawn. Papaw loved this country and he served proudly in the U.S. Army for over 24 years and retired as a 1SG and a cherished memory for his family will be how proudly he displayed his patriotism with the American Flag flying in his yard for all to see. Chuck retired from Regions Bank with over 30 years service and was proud of the job he had and the work he did. It isn't uncommon to run into a former co-worker of his from the bank and hear stories about how fond they were of him. Papaw will be missed and his memory cherished for all that he was and all that he did.
Charles is survived by his loving wife and life adventure partner of 59 years, Carol A. Upchurch, with whom he is pictured with above. Also left to honor his memory are his two children, Lena D. Sims and husband Hal and Charles M. Upchurch Jr. and his life partner, Linda Lutrick; four grandchildren, Sydney C. Sims, Charly M. West and husband Hunter, Joanna C. Lawson and husband Michael, and Robbi N. Wilfong and husband Nate; seven great grandchildren, Raleigh, Josie, Calvin, Parker, Charles, Cecilia and Reagan and also his big sister, Margie Foster.
A visitation for Chuck will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108.
We appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
