Charlie McArthur Cocherell, age 79, of Bossier City, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Charlie was born February 13, 1942 in Blanchard, Louisiana to Charlie Lafayette and Annie Lee Smith Cocherell.
Charlie served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a radio operator stationed in Germany and France. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal during this time. He also continued throughout his career serving in the National Guard Reserves. He was a Shreveport Police Officer and retired as a Lieutenant.
Dad (Paw) loved watching his westerns and police shows. No one could come between him and his oreo cookies, m&m's or blue bell ice cream. If you happened to be one of the lucky ones in our family he would give you a nickname. Dad (Paw) was a simple, quiet man but when he did say something you'd better be ready to laugh. He had the strongest will to live but so many adversities came his way over the past few years. Dad always stayed strong even until the end. His spirit will continue to live on in our hearts and lives forever.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Anna Zagers (Andrew), Connie Fraley and Debbie Meshell (Keith); son, Justin Engi; eight amazing grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, Jeremy, Josh, Keith Jr., Christa, McKenzie and Alyssa. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, one brother in Georgia and a sister in California.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jessie Louise Smith Cocherell and wife Jolene Engi Cocherell.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Gardens North Cemetery, 233 North Main Street (behind the Nazarene Church), Blanchard, Louisiana 71009.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local Veterans Facility.
