Born and raised in Joaquin, Jack was the eldest of four siblings. A true East Texan through and through, he carried a deep love for family, faith, and the simple joys of life. He was known for his passion for motorcycles and race cars, and he took tremendous pride in watching his sons and grandchildren carry on that legacy. Many happy hours were spent at family gatherings, swapping stories of the “good ol’ days,” laughing, and soaking in the love that surrounded him.
Jack’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He loved his Savior deeply and lived with a quiet but steady conviction that guided him through every season. He also possessed a remarkable mind for mathematics. Friends and family would often smile as they watched him sit for hours with his calculator, tackling complex problems with patience and joy. He genuinely believed that almost any challenge in life could be solved with the right numbers and enough time to work them out.
He found peace by the water—whether watching ducks glide across the surface or riding in a boat on a quiet afternoon. Jack was a man of many layers; as his family often said, “There was so much more to Pops than meets the eye.” His quiet strength, dry humor, and unwavering love left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lurleen Carpenter and Elzie B. Harvey, and his siblings, Billy Ray Harvey, Marilyn Ozell Henderson, and Valerie Jane Wilson.
Jack is survived by his children: Debbie Hatcher and husband Steve, Sonya Boardman, and Tony Harvey and wife Traci; grandchildren Will Taylor, Justin Harvey, Joshua Harvey, Christine Willette-McGahen and husband Mason, Michael McGahen; and many great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life at Graveside will be held at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, US, on July 1, 2026, at 9:00 am.
Jack’s family will remember him as a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man whose love for God, family, and life’s simple pleasures made the world brighter. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, curiosity, and love continues on in every story told, every engine revved, and every gathering where his spirit feels near.
2 Timothy 4:7
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
Psalm 23
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
