David was born on August 17, 1951 in Shreveport, LA, and graduated from Fair Park High School in 1969. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Radar Operations Specialist 3rd Class during the Vietnam War, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Service Medal and Ribbon. After discharge, he worked at the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for 39 years, during which time he received numerous awards and recognitions. During his career he befriended many customers on his mail routes and enjoyed getting to know them and watching their children grow up. He always loved the customers he served and treated them like family.
Outside of work he was a dedicated fan of all LSU sports teams and the New Orleans Saints. He loved music, especially the Beatles and the Eagles and taught himself how to play guitar by ear at an early age. He could frequently be found learning and playing songs for his granddaughters. Everyone who knew David knew him as a kind and loving person. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was infamous for his terrible Dad jokes, coming up with new ones weekly just to make us all laugh. David was a proud member of First Methodist Church Shreveport and attended weekly with his family. He loved going to Fair Park class reunions. Like most Andersons, he loved sharing meals with friends and family, in fact he was usually the first in line. But most importantly, Pop was a family man. He loved going on trips to the beach, Walt Disney World, and cruises with his family. He enjoyed going to lunch with his wife Vicki almost every day, usually to his favorite spot, Po-Boy Express. More than anything else, he loved his two granddaughters, attending everything they were involved in, instantly becoming their number one fan. He could not help himself from telling everyone he met all about them.
