Joan was born February 4, 1955 and went to be with her Lord November 18, 2018 after a brief illness. After attending Woodlawn High School, she worked for the State of LA where she retired as a supervisor after 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, Mimi (aka Meemers), and friend to all who knew her. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, her love of life, sense of humor, and optimistic, faithful outlook on life. Joan loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren during all their school functions and holidays. Even when she was ill, she attended events via FaceTime so that she could keep up with their activities.
Joan is preceded in death by her step father, Elias Thomas; half-brother Mike Young; and niece Chanel Laney.
Joan is survived by her husband of 17 years, Doug Campbell; her daughters, Vicky Green (David) and Dana Taravella (Joe); mother, Delores Thomas; father, Charlie Young (Dorothy); sister Sheila Carpenter (Tommy), 3 half-siblings; 2 step-children; grandchildren, Jodie Perry, Marshall Perry, Barrett Green and Joe Taravella IV (Ashley), step-granddaughter, Jaigen Campbell; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Joey Taravella . A host of nieces and nephews, special relatives of the Chesser Family, best friend Barbara Winkler and her fur babies.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Willis Knighton North for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to your local humane society.
