Donald Carl Nelson passed from this life on April 5, 2019, after a short but FIERCE battle with cancer. Our dad was born July 7, 1936 in Arp, Texas to Rector Carl Nelson & Velma “Honey” Burrell Nelson. Dad served our country proudly in the United States Marine Corp and after he attended Northwestern State University where he met and married Rebecca Ann Brown. Together they had four children.
Dad is proceeded in death by his parents Rector Carl & Honey Nelson, nephew Christopher Allen, sister Karen Robinson and Rebecca Ann Brown Nelson.
Dad is survived by his sister Freida Allen, husband Bob, sister Deidra Antoniack, husband Bob and Brother-in-law Bob Robinson. Also surviving him are his children James Earnest Nelson, “Inki” Shaver, husband Kelly, Michealea Nelson Brandt, husband Chris and Ashley McDonald Koonce, husband Jay. Grandchildren Daniel Shaver, Logan McDonald wife Kristin, Nathan Shaver and “Nikki” McDonald. Great grandchildren Heather McDonald and Leighton McDonald as well as a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission in our fathers’ name. Dads last wishes were for a small memorial service to be held at the Welton Family Homestead date and time to be announced
