Donald Charles Scheich, age 90, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died at the NW Louisiana War Veterans Home, Hospice Care Center, in Bossier City, Louisiana, on May 25, 2018.

A three-year resident of Shreveport coming from Spring Hill, Florida, where he presided with his wife, Mary Ann Scheich, for 27 years. Originally from Rochester Michigan. Born on August 31, 1927, to the late Louis and Ernestine Scheich in Detroit, Michigan. A very devout Catholic he was one of the original members of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Florida. He was also a founding member of the St. Joan of Arc Chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a founding member and volunteer of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store in Spring Hill, Florida.

Donald was also a long-time member of the Spring Hill Michigan Club, and the Hernando County SHARP local crime watch group in Spring Hill, Florida.

Donald was a long-time employee of Chrysler Corporation as an Accountant. He moved the family in 1959 to Italy and Turkey for helping with national defense. He then moved to New Orleans, LA, in 1962 to help build the first stage of the Saturn V Rocket that put the Apollo astronauts on the moon. He and Mary Ann moved back to Rochester, Michigan in 1977, with Chrysler to work at the Military Tank Division. Chrysler sold the Tank Division to General Dynamics where Donald retired at the age of 60, and moved to Spring Hill, Florida.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, of 62 years of Spring Hill, Florida, by his sister, Carol Persons, and her husband, Charles, his sister-in-law, Stella (Mastyj), and brother-in-law, Pat Laporte. He is lovingly survived by his sons, James Scheich of Shreveport, LA, and Bob Scheich of Golden, CO. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Scheich of Ruston, LA, Jeff Scheich and his wife, Angela, of Shreveport, LA, Jamie Moore and her husband, Justin, of Slidell, LA, and Steve Scheich and his wife, Stacie, of Fort Collins, CO.

Donald is blessed with 7 great grandchildren: Mikayla, Gavin, Jaybrin, Jaycen, Cora, Parker and Hattie. Donald also leaves behind his brothers: Louie Jr. of Livonia, MI, Richard of Rochester, MI, Gerald of Troy, MI; and his sisters: Janet Laporte of Clinton Township, MI, and Judy Stein and her husband, Jim, of Scottsdale, AZ.

Donald also leaves behind his sisters-in-law: Eileen Scheich of Shelby Township, MI, Rosemary Schaller of Rochester, MI, and Betty Newson of Bluffton, SC.

Donald’s Family and Friends will gather from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA, to honor his life and have some light refreshments.

The Rite of Christian Burial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 204 Patton Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71105, preceded by a Rosary at 10:00 am led by Fr. Fidel Mondragon.

Donald will be transported to the Turner Funeral Home, 14354 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609. Family and Friends will gather after the 9:00 am Mass at St. Joan of Arc on Friday, June 8, 2018, to drive to The Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513, for the Internment and committal service conducted by Father Patrick Rebel from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
