The beautiful life of Doris L. Gandy, 87, of Shreveport, Louisiana, came to a peaceful close on November 21, 2025. Born in Leesville on November 28, 1937, Doris filled the world around her with grace, warmth, and a quiet strength that left an imprint on everyone she met.
Doris was the definition of devotion—whether as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, or friend. She had a gift for making any house feel like home. Her Sunday School lessons were delivered with the same tenderness she showed in her kitchen, where she cooked with heart and gathered her family for holidays that always felt magical. She carried herself with elegance; “impeccable” wasn’t just a description of how she looked, but how she lived. You couldn’t visit without being welcomed, fed, and somehow made to feel special.
She had a sweet tooth that became part of her charm—ice cream and treats brought her joy, and she shared that joy generously. Doris had a way of nurturing others, guiding them with motherly instincts that extended far beyond her own family. She was loved, respected, and looked up to in every stage of her life.
Doris is survived by her sons, Terry Gandy (Amy) and Jeff Gandy (Kathy); her grandchildren, Bryan, Pamela, Wade, and Angelle; and her sister, Dottie McCarthy. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She now reunites with many loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents, Andrew Legg and Ollie Self Legg; her husband, David Max Gandy; her daughter, Pamela; her sister, Opal; and her brother, Gary.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Doris’s life during visitation on November 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Kinkade Room, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. A Celebration of Life at Graveside will take place at Castor Cemetery, LA-468 (Slagle Road), Leesville, Louisiana, on November 29, 2025, at 12:00 pm.
Doris Marie Gandy's final resting place will be at Castor Cemetery, located on LA-468 (Slagle Road), Leesville, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her caretaker and cherished friend, Patty, whose steadfast love and exceptional care brought immeasurable comfort to Doris in her final year.
