Doris Hofius Little, 95, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 15, 2024 at the Village Health Care at The Glen in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 29, 1929 to Theodore and Catherine Hofius, who preceded her in death.
Doris was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Little, of Shreveport; sister, Mildred Thor of Phoenix, Arizona; and nephew, Adrian Thor of Phoenix, Arizona..
She is survived by her son, David Kyle of Princeton, La.; daughter Melody Green and husband Wes of Shreveport, La.; brothers Ted Hofius and wife Glenda of Shreveport, La., and David Bryan Hofius of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; grandsons Aaron Green, and Elaine of Oswego, Illinois and Todd Green, and Jennifer of Bradenton, Florida; great-grandsons Oliver and Teddy Green (Aaron and Elaine’s); and 3 nieces Catherine Davis, Karen Skinner and Linda Thor Huntsinger and their families.
Doris responded to the Lord Jesus’ tug at her heart’s door when she was 9 years old and asked Him to be her Savior and Lord. She followed Him and His Word all of her remaining years, through good times and hard times! Upon graduation of high school in Corpus Christi, Texas, Doris began a career in the oil and gas industry as a geologist secretary. After moving to Shreveport, La. in 1955, she continued her secretarial work. In 1974, she then partnered in building the first self-storage units in Shreveport/Bossier area. She later retired to be the loving Mimi to her grandsons, who loved to spend time with her. She loved to play games with her family. Her favorite was “Catch Phrase”!
Doris was a very loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many. She touched many lives throughout her years here on earth! Doris was a long time member of Queensborough Baptist Church (now Willow Point Baptist). She took joy in also serving as President of the Shreveport-Bossier Chapter of the Christian Women's Club (Stonecroft Ministries) for a time in the early 1990’s.
Doris would always say, “I’ve outlived all my friends”, and she did!
Her wishes were that we not make a “big to do” about her, but honor the Lord and what He did for her, when she went home to Glory! So to honor her, and her Lord, the family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
“God will wipe away every tear…..; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow…”
“He will swallow up death forever, and The Lord God will wipe away all tears…”
Revelation 21:4; Isaiah 25:8
“I’m now with My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Words cannot describe Heaven. The joy and peace of His presence is like none ever experienced on earth. The beauty is indescribable, with the most vivid colors. The air is filled with the most fragranced and fresh aroma, flowers and trees are as tall as buildings. Millions of people interact with the angels and are worshipping God at His Throne. No one is sick or old. I am about 30 years old with beautiful complexion and my black hair. There are children and animals everywhere and choirs singing the most beautiful music ever heard. I was met at the gate of Heaven by Jesus, my Lord and Savior, my Mother and Daddy, Mildred, Sam, my best friends Ruth Iblings and Mary Latham, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and others who had gone on before me. What a welcoming group, who knew I was arriving.
To my beloved son, daughter, and son-in-law…I thank God for you! I love you! Because of the Cross of Jesus Christ and your receiving its message and its power, I will see you again! You were the best children any mother could have ever had. Dave, you were my very smart and kind son! Melody, you were truly my best friend! Wes, you were my hero!
To my brothers, Ted (and Glenda) and Bryan, I look forward to seeing you all again soon. And to my beloved nieces and your families, I love you all!
To my precious grandsons, Aaron and Todd, what a blessing you have been to me and your parents. I love and adore you! You made your Mimi happy and proud! To Elaine and Jennifer, you’ve made my grandsons so happy. You’re the best!
To my great-grandsons, Oliver and Teddy Green (Aaron and Elaine’s sons), you are precious, fun and loving. I love you so much. I have prayed for you that “The Lord will keep you and make His face shine upon you!”
I want to thank my earthly doctors who cared for me in my last days on earth, Dr. Randy DelMundo, and Dr. Kevin Gallagher. Many thanks go to The Glen Nursing Home and all the staff, administration, nurses and aides that cared for me. A special mention of gratitude goes to Sally, and to April, for your truly personal care during my stay there. To Christy and Kathy, my angels with Willis Knighton Hospice, who cared and ministered to me in my last weeks here on earth. To Kendall Holley, Chaplain for WK Hospice, who visited me weekly and shared the Word and prayed for me and my family. Thank you!
The thing I see clearly now from Heaven is this: All accomplishments and accolades that one might receive on earth are minimal compared to what you will receive for serving and doing God’s will. The scripture I want to leave with you all is found in God’s Word, John 14:6 – Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
I love you all,
Mimi
