Doris Cason Rowe, 83, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a beautiful example of faith, kindness, devotion to children, and the joy found in everyday moments.
Doris was born on September 18, 1942, in Coushatta, Louisiana, to William Edward Cason Jr. and Thelma Bamburg Cason. She was raised in a large, close-knit family that shaped the values she carried throughout her life with hard work, compassion, and a deep love for family.
After graduating from business school in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Doris began her professional career as a secretary for the State of Louisiana in Shreveport. Though she excelled in her administrative work, her greatest calling came later when she became a preschool teacher at Summer Grove Baptist Preschool.
For many years, Doris lovingly cared for and taught some of the youngest members of her community. She believed every child deserved patience, encouragement, and unconditional love. She delighted in watching her students discover new things, gain confidence, and grow both academically and personally. Even after her years in the classroom, Doris remained deeply committed to the children of Summer Grove Baptist Church, where she faithfully volunteered in numerous children's ministries and activities. Whether helping during Vacation Bible School, assisting with church events, or simply offering a warm smile and comforting hug, she made every child feel special and valued.
Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. Through her church family at Summer Grove Baptist Church, Doris found purpose in serving others and sharing God's love with children and families. She lived her faith quietly but faithfully, demonstrating kindness, generosity, and compassion in the way she treated everyone she met.
Doris had a joyful spirit and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She was a lifelong lover of Tex-Mex cuisine and could almost always be found enjoying a meal with family at El Chico or Dineros. Her weekly schedule was faithfully arranged around NBC's The Voice, a tradition she looked forward to and rarely missed.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Rowe; her parents, William Edward Cason Jr. and Thelma Bamburg Cason; her brothers, Leonard Cason, Willie Cason, Raymond Cason, Larris Cason, Delmo Cason, and Emmit Ray Cason; and her sisters, Zola Mae Cason Miller and Minola Cason Buford.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Rhonda Heinsohn and husband Terry; her son, Eddie Rowe; her daughter, Pam Rowe; her grandsons, Jarrod Heinsohn and wife Kristin, Taylor Heinsohn and wife Michelle, and Dalton Heinsohn and wife Abby; and her treasured great-grandsons, Henry Heinsohn and Theodore Heinsohn. She also leaves behind many extended family members, lifelong friends, former students, church family, and neighbors whose lives were made brighter because they knew her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Doris's life on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place afterward at Centuries Memorial Park in the Veteran Field of Honor, Lot 22, Space 5.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Rowe, Terry Heinsohn, Jarrod Heinsohn, Taylor Heinsohn, and Dalton Heinsohn.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the caring staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore, Life Path Hospice, and the Esther Sunday School class. Their compassion, dignity, and gentle care during Doris's final days brought comfort not only to her, but to her entire family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity that reflects Doris's lifelong love for children.
